Celebrating Elward Engle

On Saturday, May 18, CWTU will honor Elward Engle’s 40-plus years of environmental contributions to central Wisconsin. Elward is recognized as the man who secured most of the public hunting and fishing lands in central Wisconsin. He has led a life of environmental activism, including preventing the damming of streams, saving the Mecan Springs from exploitation, keeping highways from harming the trout streams south of Wautoma, and much more.

Elward will receive two awards, including the newly established Elward Engle Conservation Award. He will be the first person to receive this

honor. The second award will be the unveiling of a large granite stone recognizing his achievements.

The celebration and awards will occur at noon, and the public is welcome. The location is at the DNR/Ice Age Trail parking lot on 9th Avenue, just off Highway 21 and north of Richford.

See the March & April CWTU Brookie newsletter for more information on Elward’s career.
