Work Day
You are invited to participate in the 4th Annual Redd Survey Program Training on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Wisconsin DNR Wild Rose Fisheries Habitat Station in Wild Rose.
Redd surveys are one of the most effective ways volunteers can contribute to trout conservation. The data collected helps Trout Unlimited and the Wisconsin DNR monitor trout spawning success, identify habitat needs, prioritize restoration opportunities, and evaluate the effectiveness of habitat improvement projects over time.
Whether you’re new to redd surveys or a returning volunteer, this training will cover trout spawning ecology, redd identification, survey methods, and use of the Survey123 data collection app. You’ll gain the knowledge and skills needed to collect valuable field data while learning more about the remarkable spawning cycle of Wisconsin’s trout.

Survey Opportunities
The Wisconsin DNR has identified stream segments where additional redd survey data is needed this fall. The attached Survey Site Maps show the locations and stream segments identified by the DNR and can help volunteers identify opportunities near where they live or recreate.
During the training, you’ll have an opportunity to review these survey locations, meet other volunteers, and connect with others interested in monitoring nearby streams throughout the October-December spawning season.
Volunteers are encouraged to begin surveying soon after the training. Experienced volunteers and program coordinators will be available to answer questions and help participants get started.
RSVP
Please RSVP to Steve DeVitt at steven.devitt@wisconsin.gov if you plan to attend. We will be providing lunch and would appreciate an accurate headcount.
Thank you for your interest in the Redd Survey Program. We hope you’ll join us for a day of learning, conservation, and hands-on field experience as we kick off another redd survey season and gather information that will help improve and protect Wisconsin’s trout streams for years to come.
Best regards,
Redd Survey Program Team
