Work Day

Central WI Trout Unlimited is excited to kick off a fresh season of trout habitat restoration in 2024 with our first Stream Conservation Workday of the year on Saturday, May 18thThis is your chance, as members of Trout Unlimited, to see up close and personal the positive impact you can make on our local coldwater fisheries.  Working closely with our partners at the DNR, it’s also a great way to learn more about trout habitat, trout fishing, and conservation in general.  Our initial conservation work in 2024 will focus on the beautiful Mecan River. Probably the most well-known trout stream in central WI (for good reason) the Mecan is an excellent example of the unique coldwater fisheries we have available to us in the Central Sands region and is considered a premiere trout fishing destination.

Our May workday is always considered a special one, as we are joined by friends from the Elliott Donnelly TU chapter in Illinois. This year, in addition to our EDTU friends attending, we will be holding a special ceremony to honor famed conservationist and lifelong resident of central Wisconsin, Mr. Elward Engle. Engle, a true environmentalist, has spent over 60 years securing, conserving, protecting, and enhancing central Wisconsin trout streams. Come join us in honoring a man who truly embodies everything Trout Unlimited stands for!

Stream Conservation Days will occur, weather permitting, on the 3rd Saturday of the month May through September from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon (we recommend getting there 15 min. prior if possible).  We start with coffee and donuts in the morning and end each day with a full lunch and cold beverages, all provided by CWTU volunteers.  You will need waders (preferably an older pair), wading boots, and work gloves.  Hats and sunglasses are also highly recommended.  All are welcome, and we encourage you to bring a friend! Just remember to RSVP and let us know you’re coming so we can plan accordingly.  Come on out and have some fun!

We hope to see you there!  We are fortunate to have great turnouts year after year, and we are anticipating another great season! I will be sending out a reminder email as we get closer to May 18th.  PLEASE RSVP TO THIS EMAIL IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND.
